Border Collie person since 2001, search and rescue trainer/handler since 2007. I’m a dog geek who enjoys learning and exploring all thing related to dog training and behavior. For a day job, I split my time between working in inventory management at a hospital and on the family farm.
The dogs –
Missy – 1999-2001
My girl, my best friend, my chore partner, therapy dog, assistant nanny. She showed my what was possible, worked her heart out for me and lived to be told that she was a good girl.
Kipp – 2004-2014
My little dude. A LOT of dog in a 30# package. All try, all heart, no quit. Working sheep dog turned SAR dog. He pushed me, taught me, kept me on my toes, made me work for everything and never gave up.
Kenzi – 2008
Sweet and crazy cuddle dog. I was home #4 when she came to me through rescue at 10 m/o. Sweet, persistent, opinionated, bomb proof. Wilderness SAR dog who loves everyone.
Kolt – 2014
Active puppy monster, SAR dog in training, practically perfect in every way. My first dog acquired as a puppy. He was ready and waiting to fill the hole in my heart when I lost Kipp far too early.

I love your new site. Your article raises some really important points. I know that when my training heads south it’s because I’ve moved from guide mode into control mode. I also know people who would benefit from you article since they struggle with relationships because of control issues.
